Christmas Message

Christmas has become so much more than a significant moment in the history of the Christian faith. There are so many of our community for whom the Christian Faith holds little meaning. It is however, for all of us a significant cultural practice woven into the fabric or our society.

Like it or not, all of our shops decorate, play music and promote the holidays. All of our food stores promote specific seasonal fruits and foods that are associated in Australia with only Christmas every year. It is the holiday that tells all children in this country that Summer is a time for fun, celebration and gift giving, regardless of religion in the home, they are all talking about it and doing crafts at school.

We all have different family traditions, some celebrate Christmas eve, some Christmas morning, some go to the beach for lunch and play cricket. For some it is wonderful and they love getting together with those they love and cherish, for others it is traumatic and reminds them of some of the worst moments in their family history and some will be alone.

​Spare a thought for your neighbours, your community and for the many who will celebrate or survive Christmas in vastly different ways. Help if you can, try to be kind to yourself and others whilst rushing through December to get organised.

My wish for you all is a peaceful moment, a loving smile, an act of kindness and a shared meal.​

This year we are putting together 250 identical Food Hampers for our families to see them through the Christmas period while most emergency relief services are closed. This can be a difficult time of year for many people, especially given the rising cost of living, so these Hampers will help alliviate the pressure.

​We are reaching out to the local community for any donations big or small of non-perishable food items. 
See below for some of the items we are looking to include.

HNS - Who Are We & What Do We Do
We provide a range of community services designed to support children, young people, and families from all backgrounds, improving their quality of life and fostering community connections. Our services include emergency food, assistance with electricity bills, free community programs for women, children and young people, information and referrals, tenant's advocacy, and volunteering opportunities.
